REJOICING WITH SIX

SIX                    SHaiSH               Shin-Shin
SHAYSH              שש          [S(H)-S(H)]
ROOTS: Latin sex (#6) and the IE “root” s(w)eks  of number SIX do dominate the Germanic languages, with the guttural-fricative combination of the X/KS perhaps available from the  ה /Hey of  ששה  SHeeSHaH, six (noun).  But note how the double-fricative of the Hebrew six adjective,   שש SHaiSH  (Six , #6 Genesis 1:31),   fared in the table below.

Even Semitic languages were diversified with Babel-babble. The SH-to-T Aramaic shift (seen at the “TAURUS”  entry -- where שור SHOAR, ox, becomes תור TOAR) is seen in Amharic, Arabic, etc.

Edenic שש  SHaiSH did quite well, especially when considering how conservative a hard K sound tends to be.
X and S are not so far apart. BORAX, for instance, is initially from Old French boras and ultimately from BoaReeY(S).

Cognates of SIX at IE “root” sticks include: HEXA-, HEXAD, SEICENTO, SEMESTER, SESTER, SESTINA, SEX-, SEXT(AN), SEXTANT, SEXTILE and SEXTODECIMO. The Hebrew SIX is related to  שש SahS (to be happy) – see “PEGASUS” and ששון SahSOAN (rejoicing – Jeremiah 7:34) –  see "SEVEN" (satiety) and “EIGHT” (fat, excess). Numbers 4,6, 7 and 10 reflect a hunter-gatherer’s increasing joy at accumulating desired objects: at four (ארבע ARB[A]h), he has many or (רב   RahBH), at six ( שש  SHaiSH (  he is  happy  (שש SahS), at seven ( שבע SHe(V)[A]h)  he feels satiation  ( שבע Soa(V)[A]h)  and at ten ( עשר ESeR) he feels rich ( עשיר  [A]SHeeYR).

If the sexy SEX is not from the clinical Latin secare, to cut, as if the sexes were like political sects, then    צחק  TSa[K]HeQ may be involved. This word for sporting or laughing is specifically SEXY in Genesis 26:8 and 39:14.  The Eskimo term for sexual activity is “laughing with” someone.

Rabbi  Major Yehoshua  J. Steinberg  (YJS) reports from Ft. Bragg, NC: The root  ש-ש  Shin-Shin has three meanings:    1) the number six,  2) silk and  3) marble.
1.  is discussed above ,
2.  Rashi (Exodus 26:1, based on Talmud Yoma 71b) says that the silken fabric is called שש  SHaiSH   because each thread is woven "six times" (with six fibers, or wound six times).
3. Marble  שש SHaYiSH is composed of limestone or dolomite, both derivatives of Calcite. Pure calcite is 100% calcium carbonate (CaCO3) which is crystallized in hexagonal (SIX-sided) form.
Ibn Ezra, adds another word to the שש  SHaiSH family, namely שושנה  SHOASHaNaH  (lilly or rose -- Song 1:17) , a  flower with six petals.
